Sitka Spruce

Top selection is critical, especially if you consider that the top wood is responsible for approximately 80 percent of the Acoustic sound of any instrument. Accordingly, the end selection becomes a careful balance between back and side sets and the top, for tone, strength, projection and the appearance of the combination.

Sitka Spruce 70.0 MPa

Sitka spruce has long been considered as the standard for guitar soundboards. One of the most popular woods for acoustic guitar tops, Sitka is sturdy, yet lightweight and is an excellent choice for first time builders as it is robust on the bench.

It is known for imparting a clear and powerful tone. Its combination of strength and low mass translate into a broad dynamic range, yielding crisp articulation and allowing for everything from aggressive strumming and flatpicking to fingerpicking.

It comes is a variety of styles and colours. From near white colour with perfectly straight grain to deep golden colours making it both visually stunning and functional.

The AAA-grade tops are more even in colour and have beautiful, close even grain spacing. AA grades may display colour variations, and slightly wider grain lines, this timber is still appealing and produces an excellent sound. All tops are seasoned and have been air dried for a minimum of seven years prior to sale.

100 percent of the Wood and Strings Spruce is sourced from salvaged old-growth timber from a supplier that promotes an ethical stewardship policy throughout the scope of their business.
